The brush used is called a spotter brush and the paint used is acrylic, undiluted. The paintbrush is held vertically for every dot.

Every dot is delicatly placed without the brush touching the surface, only the paint. As the paint touches the surface, the brush is slowly moved away, dragging the dot to give it a peak. This is repeated throughout.

The dots are various sizes with the largest  ever being approximately 6mm. The size of the dot and the texture of each different colour of paint used detemines the definition of the peaks.
